So I am at the computer diligently trying to write a paper. OK, more like hoping the paper will write itself. It is late and I am worn out after dealing with the screaming and hollering princess this afternoon. And here she comes with this little cup.
PPP I want some tea
Mom No, you are not getting tea, you can have milk
PPP Well, fix me some
Mom You go get it
PPP I can't do it
Mom Yes you can, go
I can hear her coming up behind me struggling to hold the milk.
PPP Uh, OOh, dis is heavy, I can't do it
Mom Bring it to me
PPP here
She now has a big cup, and she has grabbed the new gallon of milk instead of the gallon with only a little left
Mom Where is your little cup
PPP I don't know, maybe it went back to the drawer
Mom Go get the little cup and put this one back, and why did you get the whole gallon of milk when there is an open one?
PPP I did not see the other one
I get up to make sure she finds the small cup. I open the refrigerator
Mom Put that milk back in here, don't you see the other one right here in front of you, Duh!
PPP Duh? Duh to you!
PPP Duh? Duh to you!
Can you say SMARTELIC? Only my child would have a come back for Duh. Now we all know how to respond to Duh, So, Duh to you!

I left this message for you at Heart of the Matter Online in response to your article today, but wanted to come here and leave it too.
I will be starting my 17th year, the end of August.
I have 3 to go. Two have already graduated. I will tell you the thing that I was told when I first started that is THE BEST information I have been given in 17 years. READ, READ, READ to your kids. If you develop a love for books in your children, the sky is the limit in their education. Don't feel like you have to start your preschooler into a curriculum. Let them be children...they've got years ahead of school.
Don't worry that you won't do enough to educate them. God will give you exactly what you need to do what is necessary for them. He's got your kids. He's got their education. He's got you. Trust Him to give you all the ideas you will need to home school.
Don't compare your home school to another home school. God gives us each our own agenda. It's OK to gather information from others, but then take it to Him and ask Him what a day is to look like in your home school.
If you see a curriculum not working, it's OK to change and find something that does. Ask Him for guidance. DEPEND on HIM. It's the only way...
After all it is only HE who knows what each child will become when they grow up. It is only HE who knows the plans for your children.
No one will teach those kids better than you, cause no one cares more for them than you. You and their dad are their best teachers on this earth.
When we started home schooling I asked my husband to be involved. He asked me what he could do. I asked him if he would teach Math...the hated subject of mine. He agreed. He has taught all 5 Math. Invite you husband to play a role in the home school.
OK, I should stop now. I could go on and on..after all I've had 17 years to learn from many mistakes I've made. If you want to know more, you can always find me at my blog.
I write for this blog too. I wrote a couple of articles:
"An Empty Backpack" and "Days of Grace" that spoke to some of this. You can find them in the archives of my blog if you want to read them.
I'd be happy to encourage you in any way or just be a sounding board. Please let me know how I can help you as you start on one of the greatest adventures of your life. It will be worth it....
Julie
